They already do and I don't live in the US but they wouldn't do anything about this as it is up to NCSoft and Anet. There is a person in my guild who was getting lots of these this morning and she is getting annoyed my suggestion to her will be keep all your char at the guild hall when looking for things.I would say it is the main hubs like LA,Kamaden,KC and GToB.I stay away from The great Temple anyway I don't like all the smack talk.
The only solution though is to have an uncheck mark in the Whisper much like unchecking local chat so that no one can whisper you.i have trade unchecked so I don't listen to trade chat and only use the party window for that.

The FBI can't do that much and shouldn't have to, folks like Itemcoo.com are in china if you look up the domain owner. A.net can stop all this by adjusting their software to prevent in game advertising, problem solved as. It's just like any larger corporation they are crippled internally at getting things done.

For the last few days ive been getting the same message over and over and ironicly ONLY in american districts, and mainly in kamadan, lions and the shing jea monastary.
Its pathetic really, and its always from the same website they are promoting.

Here's a solution:
Add a dropdown menu (Or a toggle) with the following options:
Recieve no PMs (Essentially the same as DnD or Offline)
Recieve PMs only from guildmates, allys, and friends
Recieve PMs only from friends and guildmates
Recieve PMs only from guildmates and allys
Recieve PMs only from friends and allys (Etc. with all possible combos of Guildmates, Friends, and Allys)
Recieve PMs from all people.
That would help with not only goldseller spam, but random harrassment from that person you just demolished in RAs.

I would like to see the interface options to:
Turn of chat balloons being visible.
Receive PM's from only Guildies/Alliance and Friends list.
However if they just made Trial accounts unable to use any form of chat other than Team Chat it would solve the problem. With some sort of friendly message "This feature is available in the retail version".

I'd like the "friends/guildies/allies only" whisper option. I rarely sell and there aren't a whole lot of people I want to chat with, so I'm not even joking when I say I'd never use any other option. I was farting around in Shing Jea, buying cheap versions of armor to test combos before buying any max versions, and in the 20 minutes I was there I was spammed no less than 10 times. I was talking to a friend in PM and didn't want to go DND, and the spammers were district hopping so I couldn't do much to report them.
I ignored one, but several other names came up and frankly, I really shouldn't have to ignore every other gibberishy name in popular towns. My ignore list isn't big enough anyway.
I don't think Team Chat only is a good idea, though. First you'd need to get a team, and after panics like the Pre-Searing kidnapping thing last year (plus the quality of your average PUG), most people don't accept unsolicited party invites. And how else can an honest trial account get a little help?
Oh, and big thanks to Gaile and ANet for recognizing this problem and acting on it. Sure, it's not a game-breaking bug or economy-ruining exploit, but it's really RED ENGINEing annoying to anyone who occasionally stops to chat in Local when there's any conversation beyond "PLZ JOIN MUH GILD".

Can't you use the party search window for that or does it need whisper enabled?

Here's a good one, just restrict trial accounts from being able to use chat! Or even better, restrict trial accounts and get rid of them!

Read the whole thread rather than just a few posts or the OP. The reason why this is not a good idea (would restrict the experience of new users and not show them the game as it really is) is stated.

I did read the whole thread. It's the perfect alternative to reducing chat, because then you want to buy the game to talk.

When you go into gtob for whatever reason just go DnD for a little bit, unless of course you're a busy man.

I don't know if this has been posted or not but try trading with these bots. It says they're using a "demo version" of the game and cannot be traded with. I found this really weird.

Would limiting the trial keys per IP help the problem?

Just had a great idea for this.
On trial accounts (or even prefferably on REAL accounts..)
An option in friends list, "Receive messages from all" "Receive Messages from no-one" "Receive Messages from friends only" (I.e people in YOUR friends list...not you in theirs..)
Seems to solve it to me.

Yeah that would be the best fix ever, just think about the setting when you go trading in towns.
Seriously now since a day or 2 ive been called by atleast 5 other ugamegold spammers with every char i pick. Anet please go stand in LA, kamadan, shing jea and kaineng for a few hours and ban all the people whispering you with welcome to ugamegold, yes those guys are often not in town or not in your district but find a way to ban them by their name, which leads to an account.
Somehow these lunatics know your in a trading town, because in other more deserted towns i dont get any whisper, and if i do its not as much as in a trade town, they know youre there yet you cant add them to your partylist and you cannot target them in anyway, its annoying and no matter how many i add/delete on my ignore list they just keep callin me. Also i noticed their calls are became more frequent as soon as i added one of their junkies onto my ignore list.

or even easier solution - checkmark - don't receive whispers from _trial_ accounts.

A couple suggestions..
/reportgoldseller IGN
The character wouldn't have to be in the same district as you to work, and since this is a recent priority for anet it might make it easier for them to track
Also keep a list of which trial access keys are distributed with real access keys, and if a real access key gets banned for botting, the linked trial keys no longer function. It may help to cut down on the spammers, though it could just make the botters try harder to steal accounts
These whispers havent been a huge issue for me, i might get 5 or less during the average gaming session (maybe due to my main IGN they think I'm a bot too?), but that is 5 or less too many.
On a side note, I was in LA AD1 yesterday to buy a couple tomes. I found the person selling them, targetting them, and was running to them when i got a ugamegold pm from someone else. I typed "/report spammers name", selected spamming, and submitted it. I was then told that I had successfully reported (the tome seller) for spamming. I know you can /report someone while they're your target, but I assumed that specifying a name after /report that you'd override the target option. I submitted a report about it and was told that they investigate /reports very carefully

Clearly you've never been to Shing Jea.
It's always full of perverts with no life trying to get their jollies off of pixels controlled by 12 year olds.
Even if you turn off local, there's still a bunch of chat bubbles you have tosee, no matter how you turn your camera *insert eyeroll here*
Anyway, I agree with the OP, 10 is not and has never been a long enough ignore list.
